Definition
Chemical storage starts with the chemical
There is no general-purpose chemical storage tank. An acid that will eat through one material sits happily in another, a flammable solvent needs ignition sources eliminated and vapour managed, and a high-purity product needs contamination prevented in both directions.
So the specification starts with material compatibility, then works outwards: secondary containment sized for the volume, the ventilation and monitoring the vapour requires, and the emergency response equipment appropriate to a release.
Everything is engineered to meet dangerous goods storage requirements and environmental protection compliance for the product in question.
Specification
What changes by chemical type
The containment principle stays the same. What changes is the material, the atmosphere and the emergency provision.
| Chemical type | What the system adds |
|---|---|
| Acids | Corrosion-resistant materials throughout |
| Alkalis | Containment with neutralisation capability |
| Flammables | Ignition source elimination, grounding, automatic fire suppression |
| Volatiles | Ventilation and air monitoring for vapour management |
| Toxics | Sealed containment with leak detection and decontamination procedures |
| Sensitive | Temperature-controlled storage |
| Reactive | Inert atmosphere systems |
| High-purity | Contamination prevention in both directions |
Construction
How it is built
The common elements, whatever goes in it.
| Materials | Selected for compatibility with the stored product |
| Secondary containment | Sized for the volume, for environmental protection |
| Leak detection | Sealed containment systems with monitoring |
| Ventilation | Vapour management and air monitoring |
| Fire safety | Fire-rated options with explosion prevention and suppression |
| Emergency response | Equipment, procedures and decontamination |
| Personnel protection | Safety equipment integrated into the installation |
| Custom engineering | For chemicals that do not fit a standard build |

Process
Installation and ongoing support
Our engineers start by evaluating your site conditions and requirements, then the system is specified to those exact needs. Certified installers handle the setup, and everything is tested and commissioned before handover.
Every installation is handed over with complete compliance certificates and operating manuals, which is what keeps the site audit-ready and the installation insurance-compliant. Professional engineering certification is available where a site or an insurer asks for it.
After handover we run annual compliance inspections, preventive maintenance programmes, emergency repairs, and upgrade or modification work, through an Australia-wide service network.
Applications
Where it is used
