Definition
Petrol is not diesel
Diesel needs containment. Petrol needs containment and then everything that follows from being volatile and readily ignitable, which is why a tank specified for diesel is not simply refilled with petrol.
Vapour is the first difference. Petrol gives off vapour at ambient temperature, so the system needs vapour capture and recovery rather than a simple vent. Static is the second: comprehensive static electricity elimination through the fill and dispensing path, because a spark in a vapour space is the failure mode.
From there, every piece of electrical equipment is rated for a petrol environment, fire detection and suppression are integrated, and automatic shut-off is built in. UL 2085 fire-resistant tank options are available where the site or the insurer wants them.
