Transport margins are tight and fuel is the largest controllable cost in them. A depot tank without accountability is a cost centre nobody can interrogate.
So the specification is as much about data as storage: driver and vehicle identification at the pump, transaction recording, tank level monitoring, and automatic reconciliation between what was delivered and what was dispensed.
Modern fleets need AdBlue alongside diesel, and the forecourt has to be laid out so a vehicle takes both in one stop rather than queueing twice.
