The price is the signage
On a fuel site the price board is the advertisement. A driver decides whether to pull in based on a number they read at speed, which makes brightness and legibility the whole specification.
An LED board also removes the job of changing numbers by hand. Prices update remotely, which matters when they move more than once a day, and scheduling means changes happen without anyone attending.
Multi-grade displays show the full range at once, and promotional messaging uses the same board when the price is not the story.
